0 “Blood In The USA” Avvenire Review

  • 03/23/2018

Read the Avvenire review of Thom Chacon’s new album “Blood In The USA”below. For the original Italian version click here.

Born in California but now in Colorado, of Mexican-Lebanese origins, Thom Chacon is one of the new voices of the most traditional American songwriters in the sound and in content. Chacon was formed listening to Glen Cambell and Kris Kristofferson, as well as watering the values transmitted in blood from John Ford films: now, after making his debut in 2004 in Folsom following the footsteps of the other legend Johnny Cash and breaking a silence of a luster, the artist publishes an album kept in the drawer for two years, from the sounds to say the least essential (they only play in four, including him and the bass / drums of Dylan records) and content but with disruptive and tragic actuality.

The exterminated rural undergrowth of the United States often produces artists of great caliber, which however remain the exclusive prerogative of a small circle of enthusiasts. Thom Chacon would have probably been destined, if there had not been Appaloosa Records, a musical ferry between the States and our country, that has distributed on the national territory Blood In The Usa, the second songwriter’s work coming from Colorado.

0 Thom Chacon Live Review All’Una E Trentacinque Circa

  • 02/20/2018

Read the live review of Thom’s January 15, 2018 show at All’Una E Trentacinque Circa by the owner/ editor of Buscadero, Paolo Carú. English translation is below.

The restaurant, one of the best in Lombardy for live music, is packed. Its a cold evening, but inside the room it is hot. Very hot. Full in every order of seats, the room quivers from the desire to listen to Thom Chacon, a young American singer-songwriter, on his first tour of our country. With a deep vocabulary, a good guitarist, shy but not introverted, Thom goes on stage with a beautiful smile on his face. He recorded four records, but we know only two of them, Thom Chacon of 2012 and the very recent Blood In The USA, and is the cover of Buscadero last month (January 2018). Blood In The USA is a good record and the audience shows a warmth towards him. Thom opens with the title song on the record, Blood in The USA, and people immediately clap their hands. Chasing The Pain is pleasant, as well as the next song, A Better Life. On stage with him is Paolo Ercoli, a local picker with great experience in country and bluegrass: Paolo has spent a lot of time in the USA, where he played with the likes of Byron Berline among others. I Am An Immigrant, the song that opens the most recent record, is beautiful and the people give a heartfelt applause. Even Easy Heart does the same thing as Union Town, another great song, which comes from the recent Blood in the USA.

0 Blood In The USA Lonestar Time Review

  • 02/03/2018

Thom Chacon’s new album “Blood In The USA” was reviewed by Lonestar Time. Read the English version below. To read the review in the original Italian click here.

“Blood In The USA” is a record whose genesis has particular aspects: recorded practically live within a day, the album remained in the drawer for about a couple of years, giving priority to the private life of Thom Chacon and now he ‘re-emerges’ with all his expressive strength and all his literary urgency, which has become highly current especially after these years of politics in the States. The musician of Durango, Colorado back then after the splendid album of the same name a few years ago and the debut produced by hand entitled “Featherweight Fighter” which defined style and image of a deep and intelligent storyteller. “Blood In The USA” is again produced by Perry Margouleff, longtime friend of Thom Chacon, with the same raw but poetically poetic approach that ask these border stories, these stories of research for freedom and better life. Between Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt and John Prine but also with the spirit of the most intimate and intimate Springsteen, Thom Chacon shows through these new nine songs how powerful his message is and how great is his involvement in protagonists who move within a landscape often depressed and hard, fascinating in its harshness but who does not forgive those who are on the side of the losers.

Firenze/ Teatro del Sale

11/01/2018 – di Giovanni Sottosanti

When you enter Borgo La Croce from Piazza Beccaria and start walking along it, you immediately perceive that you are slowly passing through an almost parallel universe, breathing a suspended air, in which aromas, sounds and familiar flavors intertwine with new aromas. All to compose a picture that illustrates the most genuine Florence, true and sanguine, the purple Florence, that of focaccia with rosemary and lampredotto, that of Chianina but also of kebab. When you then cross the threshold of the Teatro del Sale the previous sensations are further accentuated, because you are immediately enveloped in a warm, welcoming and familiar, quaint and quaint at the same time, so the ideal place to enjoy the delicacies of the kitchen combined with good music and to the right company. Thom Chacon comes from Durango, preceded by a handful of records and an increasing interest in his music, which led to challenging combinations with high-sounding names. After some self-productions, it is the homonymous album of 2012 that leads the spotlight on the young author of Colorado, in the credits the names of Tony Garnier and George Recile, from the band of Dylan, to give further prestige to the product. For the probable definitive consecration, here it is now with the brand new Blood In The USA, a cover story on this month’s Buscadero and a handful of new stories to tell directly.

0 Thom Chacon Buscadero Magazine Cover And Interview

  • 01/15/2018

Thom Chacon is featured on the January 2018 cover of Buscadero Magazine along with a full length interview.

Thom Chacon Buscadero Magazine

English translation of Thom Chacon’s interview with Buscadero Magazine below (click here to read the original interview in Italian):

Thom Chacon is a young singer-songwriter. He has only released a couple of records in his name: Thom Chacon in 2012 and Blood in The Usa in 2018 (he comes out on the market in recent days). But, despite being young, little known to the general public, Thom Chacon has a strong personality. He has his own style, is self-taught, has the right roots, with Bob Dylan heart and a handful of big in his pentagram. But if you think it’s derivative, you’re wrong. Thom Chacon is personal, does not resemble anyone: the songs are deep, intense, full of strength. Especially in this second album, which frees itself from certain derivative trappings that had characterized its debut, Chacon shows a great personality and an expressive power outside the common. It matters little that it is almost unknown. It is the music that makes the difference. Feel to believe.

Hey Thom.
I’m Paolo.

I’m glad to hear your voice.

How are you?
Well and you?

Me too. Thom I have some questions to ask you.
Go right ahead.

First of all I would like to know what your roots are, the musicians who have most influenced you.
The first, certainly one of the most important, is Kris Kristofferson. Another is Jim Croce, I greatly appreciated his songs. Lucinda Williams, a songwriter I love and respect and, as a pure author, Smokey Robinson. These musicians have been fundamental to my development as a songwriter. I have to mention John Prine, another singer songwriter that has had a great influence on me..
