June 20th 2018, on the occasion of World Refugee Day, Yayla comes out, the double CD produced by Centro Astalli in collaboration with Appaloosa Records. Yayla is the meeting between artists of different origins and genres, to give life to a musical journey in which the borders are overcome by the beauty of words and notes.
Yayla, in Turkish, means transhumance. A word that evokes the memory of when to migrate was a time of life, a season that came back every year, the breath of entire communities. Now Yayla becomes a musical journey undertaken by singers, musicians, actors, writers, operators working in the social field and by anyone who does not believe that the phenomenon of migration must be managed by multiplying barriers and walls.
Altogether there were more than 130 musicians who took part in the project, bringing words and melodies that recount and bring together ancient and contemporary migrations: We mention only a few here, which make the idea of the variety of musical horizons touched: Saba Anglana, Ben Glover, Edoardo Bennato, Isaac De Martin with Alaa Arsheed, Antonella Ruggiero, Michele Gazich, The Gang, Thom Chacon, Violante Placido, Neri Marcorè, Marius Seck … The CD also contains four recited passages, which give voice to the refugees welcomed by the Centro Astalli , interpreted by Erri De Luca, Valerio Mastandrea, Donatella Finocchiaro and Evelina Meghnagi. The proceeds from the CD will be donated to projects in support of political refugees managed by the Astalli Center.
